The purpose, in many minds, of a sound reinforcement system is merely to amplify live sound so that it is louder at the listeners' ears. Actually, this is only one of several goals of a well designed sound reinforcement system.

Three goals in particular are of major consequence: intelligibility, audio fidelity, and naturalness. Intelligibility is the prime goal. If the system does not make speech and music intelligible, articulate, and clear for the listener, it can be considered worthless in practically every application, no matter how loud the amplified sound. >>
